金玉良言 Words of Wisdom

披頭四合唱團在20世紀60年代風靡全球，他們早期的歌曲多為節奏快速而明朗的搖滾樂，到了晚期轉向節奏緩慢而柔和的抒情曲子。1969年披頭4之一的保羅麥卡尼 (Paul McCartney)所作的 Let It Be ，便是極受歡迎的抒情敘事曲，也是保羅最自豪的創作。 Let It Be 譯作「讓它去吧」或「隨它去吧」，歌詞頗有意義，在此譯之。

悄悄說句金玉良言，隨它去吧！

歌詞原文的 Mother Mary 因係大寫，為專有名詞，譯為聖母瑪利亞；其實保羅麥卡尼曾表示過， Mother Mary係暗喻他的母親，因為他小時候功課不好，尤其對數學，更是頭痛不已，他母親總是安慰他別太在意，順其自然就好。誠然，對不可強求又無法改變的事，唯有隨遇而安、讓它去吧！有時順其自然，逆境也會有轉機。每聽這支歌就有無限感觸，甚至感動得想哭。

副歌不斷重複的 Speaking words of wisdom… 以及 Whisper words of wisdom…，這裡 Words of wisdom 照字面解：智慧之語。所謂智慧之語，並非一定指先聖、先賢或「先知」所說的話，許多智慧經由知識和經驗的累積，前人經驗的累積，即成為 Words of wisdom，也就是「金玉良言」。

說到這裡，突然想起最近看到的一則相當溫馨的新聞，休士頓近郊帕薩丁納高中 (Pasadena High School) 的圖書館長，在這驪歌將唱之際，想到一個主意，她聯絡所剩不多的1924年至1945年該校畢業校友，邀請每人寫一段話，編纂成一本 “From Us – to You” 的小冊子，贈送給2008年的畢業生。葛蘭科 (Jane Golenko) 館長稱： The small booklet is a collection of wisdom on all facets of life, from finances and careers to family and faith.  It is something we knew they would actually read. 意即：這本小冊子集合了理財、求職、家庭、信仰等人生各方面的智慧，相信他們(本屆畢業生)一定會逐句閱讀的。

縱觀這些肺腑之言，多數與理財有關。順手捻來幾則：

一位1938年的畢業生寫道 “Keep your finances in good shape.  Don’t buy things you can’t afford or don’t need.  Pay off credit cards monthly.” 意指：看緊你的荷包，別買付不起或不必要的東西，記帳卡每月付清。

另一1942年的畢業生乾脆說 “Stay away from credit cards.” 「離記帳卡遠遠地！」、「別惹記帳卡」或「別當卡奴」。

關於儲蓄，一位1943年的畢業生寫道 “Save something from each paycheck in an IRA or 401(k).  Even a small amount will make a big difference over the years.” 「從每月薪水中存些錢到退休帳戶中，那怕是一點點，幾十年下來也很可觀的。」

一位1935年的畢業生說 “If money is an issue, consider living at home, attending a community college and working part-time.  The earlier you decide on a career, the more time and money you will save.” 「假如手頭羞澀，就住在家裡，進社區大學，半工半讀；越早確定進哪行，越能儲蓄下更多的時間和金錢。」

這些至少八十歲以上的老人家所說的，句句都是 Words of wisdom 金玉良言。
